VICTIMS AND THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM
FALL 1999
BOOKS AND READINGS
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN SAVING MONEY, BEFORE YOU GO TO THE BOOKSTORE AND BUY: You might want to check out some on-line sources for buying books. Texts that MIGHT be cheaper on-line include
Karmen
AMAZON.COM is a proven, reliable source
for book purchases. Remember: you will have to pay extra for
shipping, and you need a credit card and an email address to place an order.
VARSITYBOOKS.COM is a new outfit run by
some young entrepreneurs. I have NO information about their
reliability. I don't know how fast they ship. I don't know if they
have everything in stock they say they do.
NOTE: I, of course, recommend Temple
University Bookstore as your most reliable and reputable textbook
source. I neither endorse nor recommend AMAZON.COM or
VARSITYBOOKS.COM. I do, however, want my students to save money
wherever possible
PLEASE NOTE: I do not know what the
Bookstore is charging for the OVC report, but the entire report is
available on-line if you want to get to it that way. Do NOT try and
download the entire document, as it is over 500 pages; rather,
download it chapter by chapter. Here is the web site where you want
to go:

YOU SHOULD BUY EACH OF THE FOLLOWING:
Karmen, Andrew (1996). Crime Victims. (3rd edition). Belmont, CA: Wadsworth
Office for Victims of Crime (1999). New Directions from the Field: Victims Rights and Services for the 21st Century. Washington, D.C.: U.S. Department of Justice
The following titles are recommended. The first is recommended if I think or you think you need help with your writing. The second is recommended if I think or you think you need help with your web searching skills. You can find them in the bookstore either under CJ141 OR under CJ 330
Gary Provost (1994) 100 Ways to Improve Your Writing. New York: Signet
Criminal Justice Distance Learning Consortium (1999). The Definitive Guide to Criminal Justice and Criminology on the World Wide Web. Saddle River: Prentice Hall.
OTHER READINGS
You will be retrieving numerous articles from on-line sources. In
addition, you will be retrieving journal articles via on-line
